BJP today alleged that Congress and Rahul Gandhi were responsible for the triple Talaq bill not being passed in the parliament in the Monsoon Session. The BJP accused Congress President Rahul Ganshi of posing a hindrance in the passing of the law for its vote bank politics. BP said that Congress supported the said bill in the Lok Sabha but not in the Rajya Sabha which is a part of their politics.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar revealed that though the government tried its best to get the bill passed in the session, Congress party stalled its progress. Ananth said, “The triple talaq bill which ensures gender justice was unfortunately not allowed to be passed by Congress and its president Rahul Gandhi.”
In addition, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad while talking on the matter said that the Congress party just wanted to oppose the said bill and it stands exposed in front of the entire country today. He said, “It is unfortunate and painful that more than 300 Muslim women have been given divorce after the Supreme Court judgement and this bill was very important but opposition has some other priorities.”
Prasad also mentioned that Congress party just kept on demanding the bill to be referred to a Select Committee without giving any substantial reason.
The controversial Triple Talaq Bill could not be taken up for discussion in Rajya Sabha during the last day of the Monsoon Session. The BJP led government had made efforts to get the bill cleared during the Budget Session as well but had failed.
Parliament adjourned sine dine today.
