Shillong: Dismissing any chances of Congress president Rahul Gandhi winning his parliamentary constituency Amethi (Uttar Pradesh) in next year’s general elections, Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani on Tuesday said any candidate chosen to contest the seat from BJP will win.
“He has lost every single elections held there in last four years whether assembly or local ones” Irani said.
On being asked about her chances of contesting the seat (Amethi) again against Gandhi, she said, “Our party president Amit Shah has the discretion to choose the candidate for the particular constituency. However, whoever fights from the party (BJP) is sure to win.”
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Smriti Irani lost the seat to Rahul Gandhi by a margin of more than one lakh votes.
The 17th General Elections to elect the members for the Lok Sabha are due to be held in April/May next year.
