Congress Whip in RS Bhuvneshwar Kalita resigns over party’s opinion on Article 370, more expected to follow

New Delhi:

Disappointed over Congress’ response on removal of Article 370 from Kashmir, Party Whip in Rajya Sabha Bhuvneshwar Kalita resigned from party today.

Kalita also resigned from his Rajya Sabha membership and his resignation was accepted by the chairman. He was instructed by the party leadership to issue whip on Kashmir issue but he instead opted to resign from the party.

Kalita said that the party’s decision on the issue is against the general sentiments in the country. Kalita said that the party leadership is destroying the party and no one can save it now. According to sources, more Congress may follow Kalita.

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that BJP has murdered the constitution and has taken this decision only to garner votes. He accused the BJP of making the mockery of constitution. Along with Congress, TMC and JDU have also opposed the decision.

AAP, Shivsena, AIADMK, BJD, YSRCP and BSP have supported the decision and more are expected to join.

AAP leader Arvind Kejrival said that “We support the govt on its decisions on J & K. We hope this will bring peace and development in the state.”

BSP leader Satish Chandra Mishra said that BSP gives complete support to the decision. “We want that the Bill be passed. Our party is not expressing any opposition to Article 370 Bill & the other Bill,” said Mishra.
