Delhi Police arrested 310 people for violating Supreme Court’s ruling on firecrackers on Diwali night. Over 85 people out of 310 were arrested for illegally selling firecrackers.
Police also took legal action against 24 juveniles under the provisions of the Juvenile Act for violating Apex Court’s decision. According to police all those arrested were granted bail later.
Apart from this Delhi police registered around 560 cases against for disobedience of order under section 188 of IPC. Out of these most cases, 89, were registered in outer Delhi Area with 59 and 58 in northern district and Rohini respectively.
Over 2770 Kgs of firecrackers were also seized by the police from various parts of the capital.
The Supeme Court had allowed bursting of only green firecrackers from 8 pm to 10 pm only on Diwali and other festivals in NCR. Green firecrackers have a low light and sound emission and release less harmful chemicals in the environment.
The court ordered the police to ensure that banned firecrackers were not sold. The Court also added that in case of any violation, the SHO of the police station concerned would be held personally liable.
